Birth of a daughter of the sea, Shall begin the fall of thee, Kill her by her sixteenth year, Lest your fate she shall sear.
Son of flame will come for you, His heart and blade are forever true, Destroy his love before it blooms, Or be cremated and sent into the tombs.
Child of sea and child of flame, Fates collide and are the same, Finding their hearts beat as one, Must continue till their lives are done.
~~~ A long time ago, when magic still had a hold of the land, the queen from the East coastline gave birth to a daughter, Fuuka. News of her birth spread, and finally came to the terrible Witch Nyx. Hearing of the girl's strange sea green hair and eyes, she was gripped with fear. Knowing her to be the child in the prophecy told her years ago, she went forth to kill the girl.
Appearing at the celebration, Nyx cursed the young princess to prick her finger on a spindle when she turned sixteen and die. Fortunately, after Nyx escaped the castle, three good fairies joined their magic together, making it so the princess would not die. Instead, she would sleep--as would her entire kingdom--until her true love came and kissed her. They also knew of the prophecy, but unlike Nyx, knew it in it's entirety.
As the years past, princess Fuuka knew of her curse and despised it, though not for the reasons most thought she should. The idea of having a stranger kiss her and claim to be her 'true love' repulsed her. Was she not capable? Was she not intelligent? Love could not be achieved by fate or kisses. So, she set out to defeat her curse and Nyx, throwing herself into research, spending hours in the royal library. Her parents had also destroyed all the spindles/sharp objects she could possibly hurt herself on, which she understood but was quite frustrated by. How could she conduct proper experiments without anything to test?
Feeling trapped and useless, she set out on her own the night before her sixteenth birthday to find some other end to her curse. On her way, she was greeted by a young child, who was selling odds and ends. Having been sheltered and having a compassionate heart, she took great pity on the child. When trying to buy something from her, Fuuka pricked her finger on a spindle, and fell into a deep sleep. The child, who was Nyx in disguise, stole her up into a tower, hiding her away so she could never be awoken and fulfill the prophecy.
Now, hundreds of years later, the young princess remains asleep in her tower. Her kingdom dreams along with her, trapped until the prophecy is completed. On the side lines, the fairies, and Nyx, watch and wait.
Several centuries after the Sleeping Kingdom had become nothing more then a fairy story told to young children, a young Prince was traveling the land, riding his loyal canine mount.
He'd gone on for days and weeks, seeming to roam the land without any true idea of where he was intending to go. And in some ways, that was true; he really didn't have a clue on why he was going this way.
Well, he did. But even admitting it out loud while alone sounded kinda crazy.
"The term 'follow your dreams' shouldn't be taken literally, huh Koromaru?"
He gave his loyal friend a pat on the head as they continued along the cliff top road. The dreams had started haunting him months ago as his nightmares had started to fade, each night more vivid than the last. A specific trail, a lone tower in the middle of a lake on top of a looming mountain...
And the voice of the person who waited there for him, telling him to come find her, to wake her, and of a sleeping form of a young woman he could never quite make out the face of. At first, he tried to ignored it, but as the nights and weeks went by, it would not leave him be, her voice becoming more pleading, more desperate for him to come find her. And when in his dreams he did come find her, what he did next, well...
Knowing his father wouldn't approve of this (and his friends would call him crazy), the young Prince had snuck off in the middle of the night, mounting Koromaru, the Inu of the Royal family, and headed off to figure out where exactly he was supposed to go, if anywhere.
The fact he'd found the path so easily was something that unsettled him, making him want to deny he even knew where he was going.
"Getting close to the top now..."
What would await him there...? Would it all just be him losing his mind, or would... would there really be a tower...?
The tower, once a shimmering white, had all but vanished beneath climbing vines that seemed to be strangling it. A single window at its top allowed sunlight to filter in onto the sleeping girl inside. Nyx had taken pleasure in placing the princess on a straw mattress, in a room barely big enough for two people to stand in. It was a far cry from the royal chambers Fuuka had grown up in.
In the beginning of the curse, the witch had often visited the room, gloating to the sleeping girl and sending terrible nightmares to plague her. But as time passed, she visited less and less; a victim unable to respond was no fun at all. Instead she sent nightmares from her own castle, sometimes forgetting about the princess entirely.
Fuuka, however, could never forget about Nyx. From the moment she had pricked her finger, she had fallen into the nightmares of her captor, unable to escape them. She would fall into the ocean, unable to catch her breath or reach the surface, dark figures pulling her below the waves. Then, just before she would pass out, she would be running through a maze, a great beast in pursuit. Just before it would grab her, she would be cast into yet another terrifying situation. It continued on like this century after century. Each horror seemed worst than the last, the one constant being Nyx's face flashing between each one. Fuuka forgot all other things besides that dreadful face and the nightmares she lived in.
Then, something changed; a small flame appeared, always just out of her reach. It did not stop the terrors Fuuka faced, but seeing it glow in the distance gave her hope. What she hoped for, she couldn't say. She began focusing on that flame, pushing herself to reach it, though she never could before being yanked to the next nightmare. But as time went on, the flame grew stronger and the form of a man appeared within it, though she couldn't quite make out his features.
"H-help me!" she would cry out, reaching for him. "Please, get me out of here!" But no answer was ever given, at least none she could tell. This only strengthened her resolve, and she poured all of her energy into pursuing the man in the flames. As she did so, her memory began to trickle back to her and the nightmares began to retreat. The beasts were smaller; the hands' grip loosened; Nyx's face faded into nothing.
At last, they vanished all together, leaving only Fuuka and the man in flame, standing in a fog. Squinting, the princess tried to make out his features, but it was impossible. She took a step forward, but it brought him no closer to him. Sighing, tears began to fill her eyes.
"...why do you evade me so?" she said, holding out her hand to him. "I...I do not like the idea of being rescued...but...but you are the only one who can help me. Who ever you are...please find me. Please..." pressing her hands to her face, she wept.
